People with the surname Ee (Chinese character: 余, and more commonly translated as ‘Yu’) are found predominantly in the South of China. Based on our family’s historical records, the Ee/Yu clan came from the north (Luoyang) but, due to wars, gradually migrated south.
Our most famous ancestor was a chancellor/court physician of the Qin state (the very same Qin that became the Qin dynasty under Qin Shi Huang Di) by the name of You Yu (由余). Legend has it that our first ancestor was Yu the Great ~ a mythical sage-king known for solving the great floods that harried the people of ancient China.
This blog traces the much later development of a branch of the family/clan that migrated further south from Yongchun, Fujian to Malaysia.
